Here’s what we discussed:

As we start to return to our “new normal”, many organizations are choosing to embrace a hybrid model to allow both in-person office collaboration and remote work. According to Gartner, the finance organization has become increasingly flattened.

Senior finance leaders manage more employees and functions than ever before. So how can finance teams prepare for the next 3–5 years? And how can companies optimize for the constantly evolving “future of work”?
We discussed:
  • Top trends on the “future of work” and how it impacts the finance organization
  • How to hire, train, and retain the next-gen, digitally savvy finance professionals and unleash their potential
  • How to increase the diversity of skills and inclusion in the finance organization

Here is what we learned:

Jason Aspinall, Chief Financial Officer, SSP

After 15 years in finance roles in larger firms, Aspinall joined SSP and found himself in charge of accounting, human resources, and IT.

Since joining SSP, Aspinall said he has been trying to streamline processes and work less on the routine practices and putting out fires to be a better strategic partner to his CEO.

When he started with the company, he was shocked at the number of manual checks he was required to sign. The goal is to begin automating those processes and moving toward ACH, but he does not feel he has the right talent in place to fully make that change.

The ERP they are using is not one his peers outside the company know, and there are a lot of bolt-on systems, and they also export things into Excel which is time-consuming. He would love to get the point where his team realizes they have input on automating their systems and the ability to correct some of the dysfunction in the organization.
