KEYNOTE

Sustainable Finance Landscape in Asia and the Pacific

To meet the Sustainable Development Goals and climate commitments, emerging markets and developing countries need an estimated US$ 5.4 trillion per year before 2030. Closing this gap requires a new approach to policy, regulation, and private finance. Private finance stakeholders in Asia-Pacific face challenges such as unclear regulations, misaligned standards and taxonomies, high capital costs, complex risks, and governance issues. This keynote will focus on the sustainable and transition finance landscape, focusing on low-carbon transition instruments, green and transition taxonomies, and related developments.

TRACK 1

Preparing For the New Climate Disclosure Regulations

Starting from FY 2025, all listed companies in Singapore are mandated to make climate-related disclosures, aligned with the International Sustainability Standards Board standards. This requirement will extend to large non-listed companies from FY 2027, with phased approaches for different types of emissions. So what does that really mean for companies in the region?

We’ll discuss:

  • The true value of these incoming standards is to lift and drive performance and progress toward sustainability/ESG goals without falling into the ‘reporting for reporting’s sake’ trap.
  • How reporting can help facilitate organisational change and provide greater insights for internal financial planning and strategic decision-making.
  • The why, what, and how of aligning and reporting to the new standards.

TRACK 1

The Burden and Opportunity of Sustainability Leadership

In the quest to mitigate corporate impact on the planet, sustainability executives are facing unprecedented challenges that are pushing many into “survival mode”. This panel will explore the evolving nature of sustainability leadership, and how coalitions and collaborations in companies and industries are developing ways to re-think expectations and thrive, not simply survive.

Issues we’ll discuss:

  • The Burnout Epidemic: Understanding why sustainability executives are burning out at an alarming rate, the factors contributing to their stress and how coalition-building inside and outside the company can relieve much of this.
  • Evolving Responsibilities: How the sustainability leadership role has expanded from environmental stewardship to encompass risk management, value generation, and beyond.
  • Building a peer support network: Sustainability execs should make an effort to get involved in a community of their peers and meet regularly.
