Here’s what we discussed:

Cyber insurance availability and safeguards continue to shrink as insurance costs continue to rise, creating enormous pressure on the industry. To help qualify for and maintain cyber insurance, we are seeing more hospitals adopting tactical actions like micro-segmentation as part of their Zero Trust strategy.

Our Participants joined for this virtual session, to discuss the challenges of getting insured and how to balance convincing management they need to do security protection first. Afterwards, we will be led through a guided wine tasting by a master sommelier (wine & cheese will be shipped to you prior to the event).

Here is what we learned:

Susan Pellecchia, RWJBarnabas Health, Director Security Risk Management

• Susan said their council had asked what security they had in place, and that the questions about security were getting more invasive. They also are thinking about asking all their sole practitioners/providers to provide their own cyber insurance before they interact within their systems.
• If you check the boxes in an honest way that is not favorable to the underwriters, then there is no way of getting insured. Insurers need education on security.
• Susan said underwriters ask vague questions like “do you support encryption,” and the underwriters don’t know enough to even qualify the question. It can’t be answered as a blanket-statement.
• Once you identify an issue, who is going to fix it?

Hussein Syed, RWJBarnabas Health, Chief Information Security Officer

• Hussein joined the call but his connection was down during the introductions.
• For privileged access you’ll want to deploy 2FA to decrease risk, but not MFA.
