Here’s what we discussed:

Companies across industries are getting their arms around data in multiple cloud and on-prem systems with Machine Learning being a key component. Machine learning operations (or MLOps) documents, manages and optimizes the full lifecycle of ML development from ideation to deployment.

The list of potential industries being transformed by machine learning (ML) has exploded in recent years and is poised to continue it’s growth trajectory. To ensure that data models actually get used by business team members, you need to sync data directly to the tools that your business team members use every day, including CRM, ad networks, email tools and more. Some companies are responding by using API gateways and others are adopting reverse ETL tools to send data from their warehouse to business tools with SQL. There are pros and cons to both approaches.
In this session, we discussed how companies are getting the most value from their data models by integrating them better with business use cases.

Here is what we learned:

  • They have had difficulties finding data engineers and data scientists. Both are specialized skills. They look for experienced talent, but most of the time they need to hire from colleges. They learn by getting their hands ready. They have made good progress, but they are not there yet.
  • Without measurement, you’re working blind.
  • Getting data from its customers is tough. They segment data based on customer profiles and what products they use.
  • They believe a loyalty program will be a differentiator for collecting data and understanding customer behavior.
  • Better data will help improve customer credit approval ratings.
  • Historical data of more than 6 months can be a problem because newer data will perform much better.
