Here’s what we discussed:

Business models rapidly changing through e-commerce, omnichannel, curbside pickup, 3D printing, and more, a need for greater visibility into individual warehouses, as well as across the distribution network is key.

As organizations strive to achieve true end-to-end supply chain visibility, having a clear view of warehouse operations empowers a company to introduce warehousing best practices that improve efficiency, drive productivity, ensure perfect order fulfillment, and drive operational excellence through the last mile. Join Infor and a select group of supply chain thought leaders to discuss the role technology will play in the new era of warehousing and fulfillment.

Here is what we learned:

What has the impact of COVID-19 been on your warehousing operations and what has your company done to address it?

An industrial manufacturer saw tremendous growth in all its online channels, and the ability to react had been a challenge. They addressed it by beefing up its online catalogs to create a more-appropriate digital footprint. The company also wrestled with “Hero Pay.” They want to know how they keep warehouse workers engaged when this pay is only temporary. [Ben] Additionally, forecast accuracy has been an issue. It’s not just because of volatile customer demand, but because of warehouse performance forecasts.

A specialty food group saw the closure of restaurants in some states, and an uptick in business where states opened up for outside dining. The shift was rapid, and its production was not set up to handle it. Its inventory went up substantially, and it had to work with partners for additional storage and set up overflow warehouses. They also saw a change in retailer behavior. Order sizes were smaller and more frequent, and that forced a change in distribution strategy. They foresee coming out of this cycle in 3-6 months as the vaccine becomes more readily available.
