OUR AGENDA

May 7th

10 AM – 4 PM Central Time

Better collaborative planning with retail channel partners

In the middle of global supply chain disruptions, retailers are relying even more on the manufacturer to be responsible for sell-out forecasts. More effective collaboration is essential.

We’ll discuss the new role of collaborative planning in expanding and simplifying the exchange of demand driver data and other insights.

Find insights in daily POS data from retail chains

Demand variability is the biggest driver of supply-chain cost and complexity and that sell-out data is a key input to predicting demand better.  Daily POS data from 100s or 1000s of stores represents a veritable avalanche of data that quickly surpasses the ability of most humans to comprehend.  On the other hand, AI loves evaluating complex data sets to find insights that are useful. We’ll discuss the supply chain decisions that can be improved using AI to understand sales patterns better.

Develop more accurate 10 to 13 week forecasts

Understanding the timing and location of short-term customer demand is critical to defend market share. Most companies use forecasts that rely on past performance even though they know it doesn’t work very well. This session will explore how AI can look more broadly for demand drivers and consider other things that impact demand like upcoming social or sport events, weather, promotions and advertising, etc., and significantly reduce forecast errors.

AI/Human Collaboration to Evaluate Incoming Orders

All companies have downsized the number of “knowledge workers” who manage at the edge of the enterprise and have to negotiate terms with customers and suppliers every day. Very often the only answer is to automate some of the work. AI can capture and persistently organize the myriad details required to know and apply acceptance rules for customer orders at scale.

If companies apply AI/human collaboration concepts properly, the degree of automation possible increases dramatically, leaving more time for the knowledge workers to manage performance and not reports.

How Granular Demand Predictions Can be 50% More Accurate

Most companies experience high levels of forecast errors that are difficult to reduce no matter how hard they try. One consistent error is the use of “global” demand planning assumptions even when all the knowledge workers know that many regions or many segments do not align with the global assumptions or don’t align for part of the year, etc. The answer is granular demand predictions which can be provided by AI easily but is almost impossible for humans to administer if AI is not used.

Evaluate External Demand Data more Effectively

As the velocity of change increases, the ability to rely on past performance as an indicator of future performance becomes more and more unreliable.

This session will dig into how AI can be used to detect and understand the underlying drivers of consumer purchasing behaviors. Granular demand prediction focusing on limited geographies and times (days or hours even) provide a much more reliable prediction of demand.
