Here’s what we discussed:

As organisations rush to deliver digital services and make customers happier, DevOps teams and processes are critical to achieving transformation goals while ensuring speed, quality, reliability, and delightful customer experience.

In our recent 2021 DevOps report, we asked 1,300 global development and DevOps leaders about the challenges of scaling DevOps and keeping up with the demand for digital innovation.

And here’s what we heard:

  • Teams are struggling to keep up with digital transformation goals
  • 27% of Leaders cite siloed teams, complexity, and manual labour as their biggest challenges
  • 79% say extending AIOps is critical to driving innovation moving forward

In a similar vein, Google’s DORA Report 2021 and 2021 State of DevOps Report point out a scientific approach to DevOps self-assessment methodology which we recommend as a versatile self-assessment tool :

  1. Deployment frequency
  2. Lead time to changes
  3. Time to restore services
  4. Change failure rate
  5. Shift from availability to reliability

Our participants Joined this roundtable discussion as we shared the key to execute a DevOps maturity assessment, overcome common hurdles/challenges, and jump starting your DevOps practices and workflows. The resulting effect on your business is better attainment of business objectives and happier technology teams.

Here is what we learned:

  • Doing a transformation takes a top-down and bottom-up report. It has to resonate with the developers and be easy to adopt. The technology winds up being nothing if no one adopts it.
  • Champions are needed to make them understand what it means and how it will impact the organization.
  • Security is put into DevOps to become DevSecOps by putting policy into code and embedding it in the pipeline. Developers won’t become security experts but becoming security-aware. It’s about shifting left and shielding right.
  • With legacy applications, you have to analyze the business risks. We’re not doing transformation for transformation, there has to be a business reason for it.
  • One of our participants joined the session because he is trying to change the culture of DevOps within his company.
  • DevOps is not about the tools or how it’s being done, but about the culture of the business.
