Here’s what we discussed:

Voice of the Customer feedback is actually critical, but you also need to learn from buyers who SHOULD be your customers (Voice of the Buyer). How do they buy? What do they care about? What do they love about your competitors that your customers never bring up? A few companies have built extensive Voice of the Buyer programs that incorporate buyers into product conversations from ideation to launch.

In this session, we discussed the obvious and not-so-obvious pros and cons of a VoB program, as well as some practical considerations for setting one up in your company. For example, how do you find and recruit the right buyers? How do you maximize the chances of uncovering unmet needs or unacknowledged pain points? How do you get answers to questions you never thought to ask? Our participants got plenty of great ideas from our moderators and 10 or so smart product marketers in this roundtable discussion.
